Shovster Build Update

Messing with the details this week. Got the clutch parts from Andy at AHCC and were off running. Last big hurdle is making the engine sproket.

Plug the Hole!

1. Highlighted with a pencil is a hole in some steel strip we dont want

2. Clamp the strip to some heavy gage aluminium and weld it up

3. The back side of the strip, the aluminium has stopped the weld level with the surface but looks rough. weld this side aswel

4. Grind to a nice level surface. Looks sweet! well done!!

Dear Skeleton Chop Shop,
I am thinking of buying a motorcycle to make into a chopper bobber. What make/year would you recommend and can i do it all myself? I have basic hand tools and a mig welder. Thank you

Cheers for your letter. First off is the chopper bobber thing. You either want one or the other.
A Bobber to me is and old bike British or American (Harley 45 is perfect) that you strip parts off to make lighter.
A chopper is a bike that has been heavily modified. Cut all unnecessary parts off, paint wild, chrome, smaller petrol tank etc etc
For a first custom bike i would recomend buying the best bike you can. Somthing which is on the road and running well. Then you can add your touches without messing unnecessarily. Do alot of reaserch and read lots of mags. This way you can find you favorite style and make/model. Practice welding on scrap metal and get a experienced welder in to check what your doing. I was thinking that this trend in the bike scene at the moment is a good thing. Im on about the whole "old school chopper" revival business. Ive been into classic/vintage bikes my whole life and find it funny how now its cool. I was always the kid getting laughed at by his school friends for messing with old crap machines, now people are saying "I always loved old bikes blah blah". The money the yuppies are putting into this is making it so much better for us types. E.G. check the DVDs you can get now. All the old shit B movies that were hard to get on video are now one email away. How about the Magazines? Loads to choose from! All the parts you can buy off the shelf? Wild! It will die off again and the trendies will be into Flat track or Cafe Racers or somthing but for now were ruling!

This year the bike scene grew again. there was some amazing machinery there this year!
The trip down was interesting with rain, stuck valve and 6 hour journey time.
The way back was sweet with sun, good roads and wasp stings in my nostril causing my face to swell.
